Birthday

Things don't always turn out the way you planned.  Such is the case with today, where I had hoped that I would get a chance to go to the zoo and maybe also hang out with some friends tonight, but both plans fell through outside of my control.  However that doesn't mean that the day wasn't good.  In fact there was lots of good.
Starting at midnight I changed my twitter picture and name and began roleplaying as Rosalind Lutece, a character from Bioshock Infinite.  The Luteces are hands down my favorite characters in the game, speaking in riddles and thoroughly confusing you until you reach the end and what they are saying suddenly makes sense.  Jak and I have been playing around with mimicking their speech patterns in real life, and after I saw my friend Devin do his own roleplaying on his birthday, I thought it would be fun to take it to Twitter.  It was,  We thoroughly confused everyone in a wonderful way.
I've recorded all our interactions below, along with links to references I made. Things marked with an asterisk are game references that will spoil you if you go searching for them.

Going to attempt some scientific experiments with temporal anomalies in a bit. No worries, I played Bioshock Infinite so I'm an expert now.
lutecesR. Lutece ‏@phoenixanew
Someone didn't read The Principles of Quantum Mechanics* carefully enough. No matter, she'll be back good as new in 24 hours time.
lutecesR. Lutece ‏@phoenixanew
In the meantime, on to the more important question: Heads or tails?
martianbethanyBethany the Martian ‏@MartianBethany
@phoenixanew Tails.
lutecesR. Lutece ‏@phoenixanew
.@MartianBethany *flips* Hmph. Heads. Again.* Maybe next time...
lutecesR. Lutece ‏@phoenixanew
"I am he as you are he as you are me and we are all together" I like this line. Think I'll record the song and send it to Albert.*
lutecesR. Lutece ‏@jaklocke
@phoenixanew A line does not an entire song make. The rest of it sounds to be pure nonsense and drivel.
lutecesR. Lutece ‏@phoenixanew
@jaklocke Clearly you're not looking hard enough. This man was obviously traveling across worlds and reporting what he saw.
lutecesR Lutece ‏@jaklocke
@phoenixanew Or merely stumbling over words and repeating what he said. I don't suppose you have any proof beyond your assumptions?
lutecesR. Lutece ‏@phoenixanew
@jaklocke I have observed that in strong doses this "LSD" can in fact function similar to opening tears. Dreadful lack of control though.
lutecesR. Lutece ‏@jaklocke
@phoenixanew Keep the concept far from Fink's* eyes then.
jddemotteJD DeMotte ‏@JDDeMotte
@phoenixanew Skype is telling me it's your birthday! Happy birthday!
lutecesR. Lutece ‏@phoenixanew
@JDDeMotte The girl got herself stuck between dimensions, and we're working on retrieving her. But I'm sure she thanks you.
noelctNoel Thingvall ‏@NoelCT
@phoenixanew @jaklocke ................ I'm starting to trip out a little here. O_O
lutecesR. Lutece ‏@jaklocke
@NoelCT @phoenixanew There's that term again, "trip out". Odd how it never dies out in the lexicon, isn't it?
lutecesR. Lutece ‏@phoenixanew
@jaklocke @NoelCT And yet it has a whole different meaning depending on where. Pity about that one dimension, yes?
lutecesR. Lutece ‏@jaklocke
@phoenixanew @NoelCT For some, yes, I suppose so
lutecesR. Lutece ‏@phoenixanew
Do you choose the bird? Or the cage?
lutecesR. Lutece ‏@phoenixanew
We met Doc Brown in our travels once. Nice chap but very hung up on wavefunction collapse. He had a wonderful eye for design though.
lutecesR. Lutece ‏@jaklocke
@phoenixanew The flying motorcar seemed far more efficient and aesthetically sound than that ponderous locomotive.
lutecesR. Lutece ‏@phoenixanew
@jaklocke It is what happens when one focuses too much on the past than the future. But I appreciated the model of Columbia he made for us.
lutecesR. Lutece ‏@jaklocke
@phoenixanew Even if it did have the unfortunate habit of catching on fire.
mcduckmanorJennifer ‏@McDuckManor
@jaklocke @phoenixanew I don't know if I should be proud or worried that I can "get" some of this. Can you give McFly my best?
lutecesR. Lutece ‏@phoenixanew
The idea that an entire world can change because one man isn't in it? I can support this idea. http://secondtime.madeoffail.net/funny-books/one-mans-worth/one-mans-worth-the-chosen/
lutecesR. Lutece ‏@phoenixanew
We met Bishop once. He was ranting about saving his future. I told him his future was as it was, but others were not. He didn't like that.
lutecesR. Lutece ‏@jaklocke
@phoenixanew Most of them don't when they hear that. In his case, none of them do.
lutecesR. Lutece ‏@phoenixanew
@jaklocke You're thinking of the milk based life forms. I meant the one with an M tattoo on his face. So many people, so much time.
lutecesR. Lutece ‏@phoenixanew
Those two young boys from San Dimas spoke a very strange lingo. I don't think they understood a word I said either.
lutecesR. Lutece ‏@jaklocke
@phoenixanew Interesting concepts they held about the afterlife as well. Obviously wrong, but at least in a charming way.
mcduckmanorJennifer ‏@McDuckManor
@phoenixanew With all this talk of travel, time, & relative dimension in space, one must wonder if your path has crossed with The Doctor.
lutecesR. Lutece ‏@phoenixanew
.@McDuckManor Doctor Who?
martianbethanyBethany the Martian ‏@MartianBethany
@phoenixanew @McDuckManor *rimshot*
mcduckmanorJennifer ‏@McDuckManor
@phoenixanew Exactly. ;)
queenanthaiDayna Abel ‏@queenanthai
@phoenixanew @McDuckManor HEE YOU SAID THE THING
lutecesR. Lutece ‏@phoenixanew
.@jaklocke I told you using Shock Jockey* wasn't going to work.
luteces R. Lutece ‏@jaklocke
@phoenixanew Whether it would or not was never in question; rather, will it again?
luteces R. Lutece ‏@phoenixanew
@jaklocke It didn't, it hasn't, it will not. Your persistence in the face of failure is admirable, but inefficient.
luteces R. Lutece ‏@jaklocke
@phoenixanew I seem to recall you saying a similar thing in the case of DeWitt.* Patience will bear it through.
luteces R. Lutece ‏@phoenixanew
@jaklocke You're never going to let that one go, are you?
luteces R. Lutece ‏@jaklocke
@phoenixanew Why would I? You wouldn't. As redundant as that admittedly is.
luteces R. Lutece ‏@phoenixanew
@jaklocke Admittedly, I wouldn't have it any other way.
luteces R. Lutece ‏@jaklocke
@phoenixanew Nor could we.
queenanthai Dayna Abel ‏@queenanthai
@phoenixanew @jaklocke WOULD YOU TWO JUST MAKE OUT ALREADY
foxhack Dave Silva ‏@Foxhack
@queenanthai @phoenixanew @jaklocke I thought they already did.
luteces R. Lutece ‏@phoenixanew
@jaklocke The portal is nearly ready. Fetch the musician and I'll get the girl.
luteces R. Lutece ‏@jaklocke
@phoenixanew About time. This decade is so tiresome.
luteces R. Lutece ‏@phoenixanew
@jaklocke Indeed. Nothing but memes and so called nostalgia. I will be relieved to go back to where such things are meaningless.
luteces R. Lutece ‏@jaklocke
@phoenixanew Which version of him are we pulling back? He seems to change his entire appearance regularly and I've lost track again.
luteces R. Lutece ‏@phoenixanew
@jaklocke I believe we chose the one in the Speakeasy Serenaders in order for him to look the most inconspicuous.
luteces R. Lutece ‏@jaklocke
@phoenixanew Ah yes, you are correct. Do you think they've learned the lesson this time or will we be required to do this yet again?
luteces R. Lutece ‏@phoenixanew
@jaklocke I certainly hope so. I'm a bit tired of history repeating itself, aren't you?
luteces R. Lutece ‏@jaklocke
@phoenixanew 189 times is less of history repeating itself and more of it becoming a habit.
noelct Noel Thingvall ‏@NoelCT
@phoenixanew @jaklocke Now I'm wondering if next Exchange is going to be written by you two, or the musician and the girl.
luteces R. Lutece ‏@phoenixanew
@NoelCT @jaklocke If the movie contains parallel worlds or time travel, then contact us via the lighthouse.
luteces R. Lutece ‏@jaklocke
@phoenixanew @NoelCT If you're so inclined, and you will be, you'll know the way. Good luck in this unfortunate timeline until then.
luteces R. Lutece ‏@phoenixanew
Dies, died, will die. Regardless, there is nothing to fear. Enjoy your own world until all the others are open to you.
luteces R. Lutece ‏@jaklocke
@phoenixanew Lived, lives, will be born. Regardless, there is nothing to fear. Enjoy your own world until all the others are open to you.
jaklocke Jak Locke ‏@jaklocke
.@phoenixanew Well that was fun
phoenixanew Phoenixanew ‏@phoenixanew
.@jaklocke Not a bad way to spend a birthday at all
phoenixanew Phoenixanew ‏@phoenixanew
Thanks to @eso_si_que for giving me the idea to role play on my birthday, big thanks to @jaklocke for being my Robert, and to all of you!
phoenixanew Phoenixanew ‏@phoenixanew
I appreciate you all humoring us through all the silliness. Sort of amazed I didn't lose a single follower! :)
strannik_reb45 Strannik ‏@Strannik_REB45
@phoenixanew It would have been better if i actually understood any of the references, but hey - I've seen sillier :) Happy Birthday (again)
phoenixanew Phoenixanew ‏@phoenixanew
.@Strannik_REB45 the characters are sort of Tweedledee & Tweedledum meets Chesire Cat, so not understanding is largely the point. :)

Outside of all that, I went with Jak's family to a Japanese restaurant we had never tried before.  I got a butterfly roll, which was essentially a California roll that is deep fried in tempura and covered with sauces.  It was great and they all seemed to enjoy their food as well.  I'm very relieved to know that Jak likes tempura now because that means we can go to Japanese restaurants in the future when I have a craving for sushi.  Our local grocery makes good sushi but nothing beats the freshness of restaurant sushi.

After the dinner they surprised me with this gorgeous cake that looked far too pretty to eat, but was absolutely delicious.  I didn't get a picture of the whole cake but you can see the detailing in the photo above.  I also got some presents, including an Amazon gift card, a bell/wind chime with an owl on it, and two incredibly awesome prints/frames of classic Uncanny X-men covers.
